When it comes to jewelry, I’m usually a gold and dainty kind of girl. It works for me. However, Sticks + Stones has really changed my stance on this. The pieces are the opposite of what I usually wear – very bold and silver – but they’ve been a welcome addition in my jewelry collection and surprisingly versatile. After all, it’s important to mix it up, you know?!

Sticks + Stones makes the perfect festival accessories (loved these statement necklaces for Coachella!) but they also work for everyday (especially if you love rocking a minimal / neutral look).

The bags are also to die for – so well made and unique!

The owner, Lindsay is the sweetest girl and comes from an impressive design background at Urban Outfitters. She puts so much time and love into her line, it’s really inspired me to work harder at everything I do and take more risks with my style.

My favorite piece in her collection is the Leela backpack. I carry mine with me all the time and get so many compliments on it. If you’re not rocking a backpack, you really should be. It was a total lifesaver on my recent trip in Europe as well!

Line I Love Sticks + Stones | by The Luxi Look

Anyway, I recently shot some photos with my friend and photographer, Jordan, for Sticks + Stones and just had to share! Every piece is so well made and different, which I absolutely love.  Be sure to check out Sticks + Stones if you haven’t already, the new collection is going to be insane.

On that note – I’m SO happy to be back in LA, back to blogging (missed you guys!!), and slowly getting over jetlag. I read online that it takes a day for every hour you need to adjust – pretty crazy, right?! Stay tuned for more fashion and WELLNESS posts. Can’t wait to share!

Sometimes basic is better. A closet with all the right basics is timeless, versatile, and practical. This year, my goal has been to choose high quality basics over trendy seasonal pieces, and the effort has paid off. It’s so easy to get dressed in the morning. I’m actually getting enough wear from everything I buy to justify my purchases. But basic does not have to equal boring! If you’re wondering how to keep your basics from being boring, read on to learn how to (easily) elevate basic pieces.

Must have wardrobe basics

First, you need to build your wardrobe foundation. These will be different for everyone, but I like to have a mix of classic pieces in white, black, gray, and camel. Personally I am not the biggest fan of navy, but this is a great color for basics as well. Some of the basics in my closet that have been getting a lot of wear this year include a black silk camisoledenim shorts, basic t-shirts, and black booties. These are classic pieces you can wear for multiple seasons and mix and match with trendier pieces.

Elevate Basic Pieces

The easiest step to elevate basic pieces

Just because you are wearing basic pieces doesn’t mean you can’t highlight your own style. The key to elevating basics is in how you choose to accessorize the rest of your outfit. You can either mix a basic item with a trendier piece, or elevate a simple look through your accessories. I’m a huge fan of statement pieces with basics. One of my girlfriends is the owner of a really killer accessories line called Sticks + Stones.

What would otherwise be a very simple (read: boring) outfit is instantly transformed by some well placed accessories – a statement necklace, earrings, and a studded belt. So this look is perfect for festival season or a casual weekend outing.

How do you elevate your basics? xx

Millennial Pink

Millennial Pink | by The Luxi Look

Pink is continuing to have its moment, specifically millennial pink. This spring we’re seeing a new pastel, lavender, come into the mix, but I am still very much into this shad of pink. Speaking of which, Glossier just nails millennial pink, and I am so excited for their permanent LA store to open next month! You will continue to see me think pink as we progress into summer, I can’t get enough of the color.

What is Millennial Pink?

This particular shad of pink has been hot for a moment now, but if you’re still not sure what it is exactly, don’t worry. Remember Pantone’s color of the year in 2016, “rose quartz”? Millennial pink is very similar – again, think Glossier packaging and branding. Sharing full outfit details below as well. Sorry for the short post today guys. I promise I’ll have a full life update and share some fun projects I’ve been working on lately as well soon!

Happy Friday! Although I won’t be heading to the desert for Coachella this year, I still want to share some of my festival season inspired looks since they are some of my most popular posts throughout the year. This is my first year not attending Coachella in a while. Truthfully, I don’t have FOMO… instead, I have JOMO. Not familiar with this concept?

JOMO stands for “joy of missing out.”

JOMO: Joy of Missing Out | by The Luxi Look

Yep, the days where I had FOMO (fear of missing out) over missing parties and events are long gone. These days, I’d choose a quiet weekend and my pup over a crazy festival. How times have changed!

JOMO: Joy of Missing Out | by The Luxi Look

Although going to Coachella and the events over the weekend was super tempting, at the end of the day I had to listen to my body and just say “no.” As much as I love the entire festival and weekend, it was really important to me this year to focus on my own health and my work on and outside of the blog. Even just a year ago I would have had a hard time saying no to the events and projects that come up over Coachella weekend. This year, I’m fine with missing out and staying home to take care of myself and my loved ones.

There will always be another Coachella, another event, another party.

At the end of the day, self care and knowing when to say no is so incredibly important for the long run. Over the past year, I’ve learned a lot of lessons that did not always come easy around my physical and emotional limits.

Rather than running around at 100 mph every day before burning out, I’ve had to take a step back and try to go at a slower, albeit more consistent pace. This has really changed the way I view my work and body, and taught me the value of health.

Burnout is something we all deal with. Everyone is so busy and we all have so much going on in our lives. But it’s ok to say no every once in a while. You can relish in the joy of missing out for once. This weekend, I’ll be taking a digital detox. Leaving my phone at home as much as possible when I go out. Hoping this post inspires you to take some joy in missing out the next time you feel overwhelmed and exhausted! xx

By now I’m sure you know what festivals you’re planning on attending this year. If you’re headed to Coachella next month, you might be wondering what to wear. Festival style continues to one of my favorite occasions to dress for. There is something so fun about putting together outfits that are a little more out there. It’s fun to dress different than what you would wear on a typical day. I tend to go for more of a boho look and feel, but the sky is really the limit! Today, I’m featuring two of my favorite brands for festival style – Raga and Sticks + Stones.

Festival Season On My Mind

If you’re not sure where to shop for festivals, I recommend checking out Revolve, Planet Blue, Van de Vort, or Luna B. You can’t go wrong at any of these retailers. They are all SoCal based and have bohemian festival style on lockdown. You’ll be sure to find the perfect outfit for frolicking around the festival grounds all weekend long. For ideas on what to wear to a festival, check out previous posts herehere, and here.

Accessories

For accessories, I am obsessed with the statement jewelry and backpacks from Sticks + Stones. I may be biased, as the owner is a close friend of mine, but how amazing are these bold statement necklaces?! I also carried this backpack with me last Coachella. It was so easy to use and functional, and I received so many compliments on the unique shape and style. I love the line for statement pieces that completely transform your outfit. Perfect for the boho festival goer as well as if you’re going for a little bit of a grungier rock and roll kind of look. I LOVE the necklaces with an all black outfit.

I also cannot recommend belts from B-Low the Belt enough. Belts are an easy way to take your outfit to the next level, and B-Low the Belt makes the cutest ones that range from super trendy to more basic. I’ve had my Barcelona belt for years and still wear it almost every week with denim or around a looser dress.

Festival Season On My Mind | by The Luxi Look

My dress photographed here is from Raga. I love a light, flowy mini dress belted for the day with boots or sneakers. But I also love a good maxi dress moment as well. Be sure to pack sunglasses (preferably ones you don’t mind losing), sunscreen, and a hat to protect you from the intense desert sun!
